Headteacher Welcome

I am extremely proud to be the Headteacher of Cardinal Griffin Catholic College.

All our staff are privileged to work here with our exceptional young people.

The distinct Catholic ethos of the school creates an environment where all pupils are enabled to thrive. We wish our pupils to be grateful for their own gifts, for the gift of other people, and for the blessings of each day. We want them to be generous with their gifts, becoming men and women for others. We hope to develop daily habits which in turn will become the values that will sustain them for the rest of their lives.

As teachers, we do not ask, "How intelligent are our children?" Instead we ask, "How are our children intelligent?" Each child will make a unique contribution to the school and our community.

We have taken the decision as a College to link with the Jesuit institute which means we focus on five areas. 

  • Intellectual formation: Which is about promoting academic excellence and human competence. 
  • Magis Curriculum: Finding God in all things through education and the formation of the whole person. 
  • Religious Formation: Nourishing the spirit and forming men and women for others. 
  • Pastoral Care: Going the extra mile for those in need of care and encouragement.
  • Perspectives and horizons: Standing at the margins, looking to the horizon. This is about seeing the bigger picture and shaping how pupils interact with the world around them.

Our strong performance academically and our positive reputation locally are something we are not complacent about, but work hard to maintain. We seek to bring out the best in all our pupils, whatever their needs and background, and as a result, our pupils are delightful and eager to learn.

We believe education is about the whole child and we offer a huge range of opportunities for pupils to develop their talents and interests. Liturgy, sports, art, music and drama are a core part of the life of the school. The education league tables are unable to measure the wit of our children, their courage, their wisdom, their compassion and their devotion. We recognise that it is these qualities which make life worthwhile. It is these qualities which come to the fore when we educate the whole child.

Above all, it is our sense of community which matters most to us; our partnership with our local primary schools, as well as our parishes, is something we highly cherish. We are, by choice, a smaller family secondary school, which allows us to know our pupils well as individuals and to be a strong school community.
